Dr. Xuan Li Tan, APCO Regional Representative

Dr. Xuan Li Tan trained as an optometrist from International University College of Technology Twintech (IUCTT).  Then, she has further ventured into MSc (Clinical Optometry) and started her career as an academician with Department of Optometry, UCSI University. Dr. Tan is currently a programme leader of MSc (Vision Science) and a lecturer at Faculty of Optometry & Vision Sciences, SEGi University. Her research interest is on public health and primary eye care. She has appointed as an advisor for the assessment of Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning for Credit Award [APEL(C)] by Malaysian Optical Council (MOC).

Prior to lecturing, she served at UM Specialist Centre as clinician with a pediatric ophthalmologist.  In the research field, her PhD thesis project was on the establishment and effectiveness of a preschool vision screening program in Malaysia. She has established the certification and re-certification preschool vision screening module, empowering teachers in early childhood education to effectively detecting common visual impairments among children. During her PhD candidature, she was given the task of supervising final year optometry students to conduct clinical assessment at Department Of Optometry and Vision Sciences, UKM. She was under MyBrain15 scholarship by government of Malaysia for both her Master and PhD studies. She has received a Research Grant for her PhD project from the Centre of Research and Instrumentation (CRIM), UKM and sponsorship from Essilor Vision Foundation.

Dr. Tan is the Treasurer of Asia Pacific Council of Optometry (APCO) and the Secretary of Association of Malaysian Optometrists (AMO). Dr. Tan currently serves on the WCO Board of Directors as an APCO Regional Representative.
