Helmer Schweizer

Mr. Helmer Schweizer, WOF Trustee

Mr. Helmer Schweizer is a trained optometrist (Germany), specialized in contact lenses (CLs). After many years in private practice, he joined the contact lens industry, where he works now for more than 30 years. In his various positions in the industry, he published several articles, book chapters and presented in more 70 countries. For more than 12 years, he served as the president of EUROMCONTACT, the European contact lens industry association, and was chairman of the European Contact Lens Forum (ECLF) for 10 years. Next to his work, Helmer teaches parts of the contact lens course at the school of optometry in Novi Sad (Serbia, as visiting Professor) and in Velika Gorica (Croatia).

He published articles, exhibited posters, wrote book chapters and is presenting and doing workshops in many countries and at a great number of congresses. He was recipient of the EFLCIN Award 2012 and the IACLE contact lens educator of year for EURMEA in 2015. Education and advancing Optometry are subject to his heart, as is making people see better, so that they have a better life. This drives also his engagement in the WOF.

Besides being an optometrist, he also holds two MBA degrees (Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, USA and the Lorange Institute of Business in Zurich, Switzerland). In his spare time, he enjoys his family, sailing (two times European and Swiss champion) and skiing.
