Dr. Luisa Casas Luque, ALDOO Regional Representative
Dr. Luisa Casas Luque is a Colombian Optometrist (OD) and has a Ph.D. in Education and Society, Magna cum laude from La Salle University. She studied post-graduate degree at Pennsylvania College of Optometry, then travelled to South Africa for two years to work at Durban Westville University as a clinical resident, completing the Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) program from New England College of Optometry. She was Vice President of FEDOPTO 2008-2010.
Dr. Casas worked as program director for the Latin-American and Caribbean region (LAC) for the Brien Holden Vision Institute. She implemented education courses for optometrists and conducted the first RARE refractive error research in the region. She worked with universities and associations of the LAC region, improving the profession with the support of the NGO sector. Dr. Casas has been an academic peer for the Ministry of Education, evaluating the optometry programs in Colombia and the high-quality accreditation for the Colombian council. She has been working as a consultant for Seva Foundation and participates in the Global Directors Committee 2021.
Also, during 2021 Dr. Casas worked closely with WCO developing the Optometry Program in Advocacy and Leadership OPAL, and since November 2021 is working in the development of projects for the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness IAPB for the Latin American Region.
