Dr. Susan Cooper, WOF Secretary

Dr. Susan Cooper graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1977 and established a private practice in Brampton, Canada.

Dr. Cooper has been involved in organized optometry since 1980 serving as a founding member of the Vision Institute of Canada, on various Ontario Association of Optometry Committees, Chair of the Quality Assurance Committee of the Regulatory College and ultimately the first woman president of the College of Optometrists of Ontario.

In 2008 she joined the faculty at the University of Waterloo as the founding director of the International Optometric Bridging Program. This program was established to provide a way to enable optometrists trained overseas to practice in Canada.

Currently Dr. Cooper is the Canadian Chair of Optometry Giving Sight (OGS), whose mission is to support universal access to eye care services and solutions to those in need. The impact of OGS through vision care projects spans nearly 40 countries.

Dr. Cooper has been involved in WCO since 2006, first as Canada’s representative on the Board of Directors, followed by Chair of the Legislation Registration and Standards Committee and President from 2011-2013.

Currently, she is the Interim Managing Director of WCO.

Dr. Cooper and her husband Brian enjoy collaborating with and learning from our WCO colleagues as they travel to the meetings around the globe.
