Mr. Ian Davies, WOF Trustee

Mr. Ian Davies is an independent optical business consultant, motivational speaker and coach with over 30 years’ experience working in the global vision care business at management board levels. Mr. Davies has published extensively in the peer reviewed and non-peer reviewed literature on many aspects of contact lens practice and has co-authored 2 textbooks on the subject. He continues to write on medical communication and practice management, as well as on broader business aspects such as time management, personal effectiveness, innovation and change management.

Mr. Davies is an optometry graduate from Manchester University, England. After graduating he worked at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, combining this with graduate and post graduate teaching, academic research and private optometric practice. He then joined Allergan, working in their UK research and development clinic before joining Johnson and Johnson in 1992 as they were establishing disposable contact lenses across Europe. Over a 26-year career with Johnson and Johnson Vision, Ian worked across multiple roles in Professional Affairs, Marketing, New Business Development, Sales Force Effectiveness and Business Process Re-engineering. He established and ran The Vision Care Institute™ setting up training centres in the UK, Prague, Moscow, Milan and Dubai before taking over worldwide professional education for Johnson and Johnson Vision as Global Vice President. Ian retired from Johnson and Johnson in 2018 establish his own consulting business, IansEyes Ltd.

Mr. Davies is a Warden of The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers, the oldest optical professional body in the world, having been founded in 1629.
