Patrick Mawila, Africa Representative

Mr. Patrick Mawila is a 40-year-old South African based optometrist in the small town of Dundee in the Kwazulu Natal province. Mr. Mawila graduated with a B.Optom Degree from University of Limpopo in 2001, and earned a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the Management College of Southern Africa in 2015.

For the past 15 years, Mr. Mawila has been the Sole Proprietor of his private practice. Mr. Mawila enjoys spending time with his family.

Mr. Mawila has held many community and professional leadership positions. He has been involved in the WCO Advocacy Program, which is conducted by the Brien Holden Vision Institute, he was elected President of the African Council of Optometry (AFCO) in July 2017 and served as the President of the South African Optometric Association (SAOA) from 2014-2016. Currently, Mr. Mawila serves as the Finance Director of the South African Optometric Association (SAOA).
Mr. Mawila is involved in Audit Committees at the Endumeni Local Municipality, where he is the chairperson, and he is a member at the Alfred Duma Local Municipality. Recently, Mr. Mawila was appointed on the Board of Directors at the Umzinyathi District Economic Development Agency.

Additionally, Mr. Mawila has attended many capacity building workshops on Corporate Governance, Performance Management, Stakeholder Relations and Strategy Planning and Formulation. Mr. Mawila looks forward to this new experience, and is committed to contributing to the development and enhancement of the optometry profession. As a leader, Mr. Mawila accepts this role knowingly that one must be prepared to sacrifice time and energy for the realization of set objectives.

Mr. Mawila’s hobbies include watching live soccer and rugby. Mr. Mawila is an adventurous person, and enjoys meeting new people.
