Dr. Curtis A. Ono, In-Kind Association Representative
Curtis A. Ono, O.D. lives and practices in Seattle, Washington where he is a partner at Puget Sound Eye Care. A graduate of Indiana University School of Optometry, Dr. Ono practiced in Minnesota before moving to Washington State. In addition to licensure, Dr. Ono is a diplomate of the American Board of Optometry and successfully completed the Laser and Advanced Ocular Procedures Course from Northeastern State University College of Optometry.
Dr. Ono serves on the American Optometric Association (AOA) Board of Trustees and was elected at the annual meeting of the House of Delegates on June 22, 2020, and re-elected during the 126th Annual AOA Congress & 55th Annual AOSA Conference: Optometry’s Meeting in June 2023. Dr. Ono served as chair of the AOA Membership Development Committee and chair of the AOA Affiliate Relations and Membership Executive Committee. In addition, he was a member of the Practice Modalities, Resolutions and Vision USA committees. In 2019, Dr. Ono received the AOA President’s Award. In addition, the American Association of Corporate Optometrists (AACO) awarded Dr. Ono their highest honor, the Larry J. Alexander Award in 2020.
Dr. Ono is a past president of the Optometric Physicians of Washington (OPW) In 2017, OPW recognized his optometric and community contributions with the Jack Hale (Lifetime Achievement) Award. In addition, he is the recipient of the Optometric Physician of the Year Award in 2016 and the Distinguished Service Award in 2016 and 2005.
Dr. Ono also served as president of the Great Western Council of Optometry’s (GWCO) board of directors. GWCO is a coalition of 12- western AOA affiliates. In 2017, he was awarded the GWCO President’s Leadership Award.
Early in his career, Dr. Ono was a member of the Minnesota Optometric Association (MOA) and served as the Metro-area Legislative Grassroots Coordinator and chair/co-founder of the Minnesota Vision Project, part of the national VISION USA initiative. The MOA awarded Dr. Ono the President’s Award in 1994.
