Mr. Ameer Abou Adela, Geographic Representative for the Eastern Mediterranean region

Ameer Abou Adela is an optometrist with 10 years of experience. He holds a BS in Optics & Optometry from the American University of Science and Technology (AUST), an MBA from Sagesse University, and is a PhD(c) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN).

He is the Manager at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute – Abu Dhabi. Previously, he served as the Chief Optometrist at the Lebanese American University Medical Center (LAUMC) and as an Ophthalmic Photographer at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD).

Ameer is the Founder and Past President of the Vision Care Association (VCA) in Lebanon and currently serves on the Board of Directors of VOSH/International and as a Board Member of GOPHA – the Global Optometry Public Health Alliance.

He also serves as Chair of the Public Health Committee of the Eastern Mediterranean Council of Optometry (EMCO) and formerly chaired its Media & PR Committee. Additionally, he is a Mentor in the Optometry Program of Advocacy & Leadership (OPAL), a collaboration between the World Council of Optometry (WCO) and Indiana University.

He is an International Member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), a member of the College of Optometrists (UK), and a member of the European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO).

Ameer is the recipient of the 2023 WCO Young Leader Award (in memory of Dr. Paul Berman) and the 2025 IAPB Young System Leader Award, recognizing his outstanding leadership in advancing eye health systems globally. He is also the elected Geographic Representative on the WCO Board of Directors for the Eastern Mediterranean Region from 2024-2027.
