Dr. Yazan Gammoh, WCO Education Committee Chair

Dr. Yazan Gammoh, a Jordanian optometrist holds a PhD in Optometry & Vision Science and an MSc in Optometry from the University of Bradford, UK. Yazan is an Associate Professor of Optometry and the chairman of optometry department at Ahliyya Amman University, Amman, Jordan and a senior optometrist at Arab East Medical Supply. In addition, he acts as a consultant for Lions Clubs Jordan for eye health care school eye health programs. Dr. Gammoh also serves as the chair of continuing education committee for optometry and optical professions at the Higher Medical Council, Ministry of Health, Jordan.

Dr. Gammoh is a Fellow of IACLE and IACLE Educator of the Year 2017 for Europe, Africa and Middle East. Yazan is also a Peter Ackland award winner of the year 2020 and Dubai Conferences Ambassador of the year 2020.

Dr. Gammoh acted as the representative of Eastern Mediterranean Council of Optometry (EMCO) for WCO education committee between 2015 and 2019, where he worked on a unified minimum curriculum for a first university degree for the EMCO region. He also chaired the conference committee of the first and second EMCO conferences in the years 2015 and 2017. He also chaired the Vision-X conference in Dubai for the years 2015 and 2019. In addition, he acted as a consultant for various conferences in Middle Eastern and North African countries

Dr. Gammoh’s main clinical interests are management of keratoconus using scleral lenses as he was a pioneer in introducing and facilitating scleral lenses in several countries in the Middle East. In addition, Dr. Gammoh has established the first not-for-profit low vision rehabilitation clinic in Jordan to serve children in Jordan regardless of their nationality and social or financial status. Furthermore, Dr. Gammoh serves in the only private clinic in Jordan solely dedicated for low vision assessment and management.

Dr. Gammoh currently serves on the WCO Board of Directors as the WCO Education Committee Chair.
