Mr. Patrick Mawila, Geographic Representative for Africa
Mr. Patrick Mawila is a practicing optometrist in South Africa. He has been in private practice since obtaining his Bachelor of Optometry (B.Optom) Degree at the University of the North (now University of Limpopo) in 2001.
In pursuit of improving his business skills, he also obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the Management College Southern Africa (MANCOSA) in 2015.
Mr. Mawila has attended several workshops and served on various committees and Task Teams relating to finance, corporate governance, disciplinary inquiries, ethics, transformation, strategic planning, universal health coverage, and more.
Throughout his 24 years in private practice, he has continuously been steady and ready to serve the profession of optometry. He has served the profession in many leadership portfolios, notably as the South African Optometric Association (SAOA) President from 2014-2016 and African Council of Optometry (AFCO) President from 2017-2019. He currently serves on the WCO Board of Directors as the Geographic Representative for Africa.
