Prof. Edward Mallen, ECOO Regional Representative

Edward Mallen is Professor of Physiological Optics at the University of Bradford. Ed is a registered optometrist, having trained at Aston University for his BSc and PhD degrees. He was Head of the School of Optometry and Vision Science at Bradford from 2013 to 2021.

In 2017 Ed also served the University of Bradford as Interim Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences. From 2018 to 2020 Ed was President of The College of Optometrists, the professional, scientific and examining body for optometry in the UK. Ed teaches ophthalmic lenses and dispensing to undergraduate students on the optometry program at Bradford. His research interests are focused on myopia and accommodation function, adaptive optics, neural adaptation to blur, and development of ophthalmic instruments. Away from the University, Ed is an examiner for the College of Optometrists Scheme for Registration, and has served as external examiner for a number of optometry and ophthalmic dispensing programs in the UK.
